Ending the trimester and halfway through the quarter

Advisory: There are big changes coming this week for our kids. Backpacks are allowed to pass classes but are not allowed in the cafeteria this week. Next week backpacks will need to stay in the lockers Periods 1-10 and can be taken to Hawk Time for dismissal. We have been practicing our locker codes and I'm pretty confident they all have nailed it! I would suggest talking to your student on how they plan to carry their materials. In the past, students had a morning binder and an afternoon binder. 6th graders will have the opportunity to visit their lockers before school, after enrichments (between period 2 and 3), before and after lunch and finally before Hawk Time. Another big change is Patton has added more recess time to lunch periods. To allow for that time, administration has taken 5 minutes from advisory. Here's the new schedule. 8th Grade Traditional ART: We've been working on portraits. Shading has been our main focus this week and we are starting add in our backgrounds as well. Take a look...

8th Grade Sculpture ART: We've been finishing up wire projects and have introduced the choice project coming up. Students will have a choice of building a clay project or a found object project. 

7th Grade ART: We are preparing for our clay projects. This week we had a clay demo and should start building in clay this week. Here are the drawing prep photos. Ask your kids to tell you their clay alliteration sentence. They were shocked that we write in art:)

What's happening in the art room lately

 Advisory: This Friday we had a visiting author, Jordan Sonnenblick. Ask your kids about it. They went to the high school auditorium for the presentation. My club made valentines and finally Yuna and Jonah planted my paperwhites plant last week and have been measuring it's growth all week. It's amazing how fast the plant is growing.

6th Grade: We finished up building clay houses and I have put most of them in the kiln. I still have a few unfinished or too wet houses that can be fired next week. While we are waiting for the kiln, we started our crushed can sculptures that use recycled materials. I'll have more completed projects to show you next time:) If you could check PowerSchool with your kiddos to make sure they get their work uploaded to Canvas, I would appreciate the help from home. I sent an email out today, February 12th. The trimester is coming to a close on March 9th.

8th Grade: This week we took our field trip to the Brandywine River Museum of Art. Your children prepared by watching videos for 3 class periods. Thursday they went on a guided tour and saw them in real life. Many remarked how different they were in person. Hopefully, they enjoyed their visit. Sculpture class in the meantime has started their wire sculptures and Traditional has started their self portraits.

7th Grade: We started the quarter with printmaking instead of clay because like the rest of the world, clay was backordered. We are going to be doing a linocut with the theme of Chinese New Year or Dragons. Kids have completed their drawing. However, we are going to skip to our clay food and fashion project because we did finally receive our clay;) I have shown some of the prep drawings for that as well. When the clay is in the kiln, we will bounce back to linocuts.
