Welcome to Trimester 3 Art Students:

We started out the trimester with clay cookies decorated in Colonial Slip Trailing techniques to tie into their Social Studies Unit on Colonial times in 5th grade. Next up is the clay warmup project to get ready for clay houses. Check out their work...

8th Grade Art [Traditional Portraits and Cardboard Sculptures]:

We are winding down Quarter 3 with 8th grade. The traditional classes have finished their portraits and are working on color theory and glazing their clay choice projects. Sculpture class is working on their last project which is the cardboard project. If they did a clay project for their choice project, they are glazing those. The other choice project was found object if they did not want to do clay. We are firing clay this weekend:)

7th Grade Art:

We are winding down Quarter 3 with 7th grade as well. They are either glazing their food/fashion clay project or starting to print their linocut Chinese New Year / Year of the Dragon project. Both are starting to look pretty fabulous!

What's happening in the art room

Advisory: This week we had a new bell schedule that allowed students to have more recess time after lunch. Reminder for this week coming that backpacks must stay in the lockers. Thursday we saw the premier of Disney Frozen Jr. Two of our own are in the production this weekend!! Congratulations to Nola (back right) and Mahima (front left):) And we also had some very awesome volunteers help out in the art room labeling and organizing new art materials that arrived. Thank you! Friday in my club, Open Art, we had lots of creative activities going on. We were weaving homeless sleeping mats, creating our own color pages, and coming up with hair accessories. I think they enjoyed creating.

6th Grade Art: We are finishing up the trimester which ends March 9th. Clay houses are coming out of the kiln all shiny. And our last project, Illuminated Letter, which is a self portrait of sorts is coming along. Make sure your student brings in a box to bring home their clay.

8th Grade Art: Both Traditional and Sculpture are working on a choice project. Here is a preview of some of the clay works. Once they are dry enough we will fire them in the kiln and they can be glazed. You might see lots of mugs and the cool part is that they will be food safe.

7th Grade Art: We are finally working in clay! Here are some shots of the food and fashion clay project they are working on this week and next.
